As the Dow Goes Down, the Stockbroker’s Excuses About Your Account Going Down, Go Up

Posted in:

To anyone who is receving a statement from a stock broker now, showing a lot of precious money lost, you will hear this from your broker: "You know, the market goes up and down, and this is one of those down times, that is why you lost money.. . ."  Beware of this.  Of course, the market does go up and down, but that is not why your account goes up and down.  Stockbrokers and the Wall Street firms sell themselves as knowledgeable, conservative, and experieced.  But just riding the market does not show any of these favorable traits.  The truth is that properly and suitably guided investments should not suffer substantial losses, if you are a conservative investor.  There are many different actions, starting with the choice of investments and including careful supervision, that a stockbroker owes to a customer.  Don't let the balm of "the market goes up and down" keep you from finding out the real reasons why there were such large account losses.  We can answer the questions for you.
