Just posted a great article about a PBS money show where the host--a former broker and supervisor of brokers--breaks through to mention the truth. That brokers are salespeople. The biggest thing holding back people who have suffered serious financial losses is still this kind of guilt, that they are the one's responsible for it, that they should have "known better" or "knew the risks..." Why does the broker or financial advisor sell themselves (at expensive rates) as possessing special knowledge and ability? What is the benefit to full service brokers if a customer isn't relying on their advice? Yet, too many people, who have lost their future retirements or lifetimes of savings, or pension buyouts, have been kept from even talking with a lawyer qualified to advise on whether a brokerage firm failed them, because of this guilt. We say get beyond it, you have a right to information, and we can provide it.
